On February 8, 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger surprised  Toy Story fans by announcing that Pixar is producing  Toy Story 5. Everyone thought  Toy Story 4 wrapped up the series for good, with Woody and Buzz  Lightyear going their separate ways—Woody living with Bo and her friends as a lost toy, and Buzz returning home with Jessie, Slinky, Mr. Potato Head, and the rest of the toys to take care of Bonnie. Though the news received a warm welcome from many fans of Pixar movies, others questioned the necessity of a fifth  Toy Story film.

The first Toy Story movie, released in 1995, marked Pixar’s debut in feature-length filmmaking. Toy Story was a groundbreaking film that revolutionized animated movies, establishing Pixar as the leader in animation. Since then, Pixar has consistently delivered emotionally impactful stories that resonate with both adults and children alike. Unlike many animated franchises, the  Toy Story series has maintained its high quality throughout, with each installment introducing new beloved characters to audiences.

Toy Story 5 Cast

Not much has been confirmed regarding the  Toy Story 5 cast, but Pete Docter has confirmed that Buzz and Woody will be returning. This news isn’t surprising, as Buzz and Woody have always been the heart and soul of the franchise since the first movie. This suggests that Tim Allen will likely reprise his role as Buzz  Lightyear and Tom Hanks as Woody, although the actors themselves have not been formally announced. The  Toy Story franchise has always introduced new and exciting characters in each sequel, and  Toy Story 5 is expected to continue this tradition.

Toy Story 5 Potential Story

Since  Toy Story 4 wrapped up Woody and Buzz’s story neatly,  Toy Story 5 might unfold in a different way. It could be divided into two parts that connect smoothly. In the first part, we might see Buzz taking charge of Jessie, Rex, and the gang, including Forky, as they assist Bonnie during her first-grade adventures. Or maybe it could be third grade, if some time has passed since  Toy Story 4. The second part could focus on Woody’s adventures as a lost toy in a carnival, joined by Bo, Ducky, Bunny, Giggles McDimples, and Duke Caboom. Together, they could help toys from carnival games find new owners.

In  Toy Story 5, there’s a chance we might see Andy again after he finishes college. He could stumble upon the carnival where Woody now resides while it travels around. But there’s a twist: there might be a new villain causing trouble. It could be Sid, who’s turned into a mischievous YouTuber spreading false rumors about living toys, influenced by his past with Woody. Alternatively, it might be a Wall Street type trying to shut down the carnival, pushing Woody and pals to step up and save the day.

Without specific information, all we can do is guess about what might happen in the story.

Toy Story 5 Release Date

Disney keeps sharing thrilling updates about their upcoming sequels and remakes, and now they’ve announced the release date for  Toy Story 5. Even though it’s quite a while away, this unexpected addition to the nearly 30-year-old series is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
