Black Phone 2 is the chilling sequel to the acclaimed 2021 horror film, featuring the return of Ethan Hawke as the killer known as The Grabber and Mason Thames as Finney Blake. Directed and co-written by Scott Derrickson, the film expands the terrifying universe established in the first installment.
The story is set four years after the events of the original. Finney (Mason Thames), now 17, is still struggling with the psychological trauma of escaping The Grabber. However, the nightmare is far from over when The Grabber unexpectedly returns—this time seemingly from beyond the grave, seeking revenge on Finney and his family. Finney’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), begins receiving strange dreamlike calls from the black phone and experiences haunting visions of three boys being hunted at a winter camp called Alpine Lake.
Determined to end the terror, Gwen convinces Finney to travel to Alpine Lake during a snowstorm, where they uncover a horrifying connection between The Grabber and their own family’s past. They must face a killer who has grown even more powerful after death, forcing the siblings to join forces to survive and break the cycle of horror.
The film continues to explore supernatural elements, pushing the boundaries of horror with more disturbing, violent, and psychologically intense scenes. Director Scott Derrickson describes this as a more mature, high school-set story, with brutality and terror surpassing the original. Black Phone 2 is scheduled for release on October 17, 2025, just in time for Halloween, and promises to deliver new nightmares to audiences worldwide.
