Jamie Lee Curtis Just Got Very Emotional Discussing Charlie Kirk’s Shooting, And I Have A Feeling Her Comments Might Divide People
It’s been nearly a week since Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, and in that time, it’s felt like everyone’s had something to say about it.
And now, the latest person to weigh in on the situation is Jamie Lee Curtis, who broke down in tears while discussing Kirk’s shooting during an appearance on Marc Maron’sWTFpodcast.
Though it dropped on Monday, the podcast episode was recorded on Sept. 12, two days after the shooting. Jamie Lee brought up the topic herself about an hour into the conversation, telling the host it was “front of mind” for her. Notably, she began by calling Kirk by the wrong name. She mistakenly called him “Charlie Crist,” and when corrected, said it was a slip of the tongue due to Kirk’s “deep, deep belief” in Christianity.
“I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died, that he felt connected with his faith,” she said, audibly beginning to sob. “Even though his ideas were abhorrent to me. I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith. And I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.”
As you’ve likely heard, Kirk openly voiced opinions that were anti-Black, anti-gay, anti-trans, and anti-abortion. He said in 2023 he thought gun deaths were “worth it” in order to keep the Second Amendment in place. It’s perhaps worth mentioning that Jamie Lee has a trans child.
As she attempted to emphasize the “point” of her comments, Jamie Lee honed in on the videos of Kirk’s shooting that have circulated online. “Yesterday [on 9/11], we watched again these images of those buildings coming down,” she said. “Today, we as a society are bombarded with imagery. So we don’t know what the longitudinal effects of seeing those towers come down over and over and over and over again, or watching his execution over and over and over again.”
She continued: “We don’t know enough psychologically about what that does. What does that do? That kind of — I don’t ever want to see this footage of this man being shot.”
