A night meant for fun turned tragic when a young mother lost her life in a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 act of violence. Kayla Montano, a 29-year-old mom, was shot dead at a gas station in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while her seven-year-old son and fiancé were in the car with her, sparking a heartbreaking investigation into a case of mistaken identity.
In a newly released interrogation video, police questioned a group of teenagers about the murder, revealing the chilling details of the crime. The footage shows one of the suspects, 19-year-old Diamond Salazar, requesting her mother to be present during the questioning, as detectives laid out the gravity of the situation. The group allegedly believed they were targeting robbers when they fired over 30 bullets into Kayla's vehicle, but tragically, they were mistaken.
Kayla was simply on her way to Topgolf with her family when the attack occurred. Witnesses described the chaos as they barely parked when the shooting began. Miraculously, her son survived, but Kayla did not. The aftermath left a community in shock and grief, as they grappled with the senselessness of the act.

The investigation quickly led police to Diamond, who claimed she was seeking revenge after being robbed. However, the intended target was not Kayla, but rather a person she believed had wronged her. Diamond's interrogation revealed her attempts to distance herself from the shooting, despite evidence suggesting otherwise.

As the police pieced together the events, they discovered that Diamond was not alone. Her alleged accomplices included 15-year-old Estavan Lucero and 16-year-old Tai Gagos, both of whom would later face serious charges. In a series of intense interrogations, the teens attempted to maintain their innocence, but the evidence against them was mounting.

Estavan, in particular, would later plead guilty to first-degree murder, reportedly showing no remorse as he faced sentencing. He was handed a 22-year prison term, while Tai received a 10-year sentence. Diamond, who initially tried to play tough with detectives, also accepted a plea deal, resulting in a 19-year prison sentence.
The case has left many questioning how such a tragic event could unfold, especially involving young individuals whose lives are now forever altered. As the community mourns the loss of Kayla Montano, the question remains: what could have been done to prevent this heartbreaking incident?
