Kouri Richins Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Poisoning Husband Eric Richins

Kouri Richins, a 36-year-old mother of three and former real estate agent, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the aggravated murder of her husband, Eric Richins. The sentencing hearing took place on what would have been Eric’s 44th birthday.

During the emotional proceedings, Eric’s family members delivered powerful victim impact statements. The judge detailed Richins’ actions — attempting to murder her husband 17 days before finally succeeding by poisoning his drink with fentanyl on March 4, 2022. He emphasized that the crimes were committed for financial gain and showed no leniency.

Richins also addressed the court before the sentence was handed down. The judge ordered consecutive sentences on the remaining counts, including insurance fraud and forgery.

This high-profile case, which gained national attention after Richins published a children’s book about grief while under investigation, has now reached its conclusion in the courtroom.
