From Catering Trucks to Classic Contenders: Basher Watts’ Remarkable Racing Journey

Once known as “The Food Dude” for running catering trucks at racecourses, Basher (real name James) was a passionate racing fan with no family background in the sport. Inspired by moments like Frankel’s Guineas win in 2011, he started creating content to connect with fellow fans his age — and soon decided to turn his dream into reality by forming the Basher Watts Racing Syndicate.
What began modestly quickly gained momentum. His first horse, Believe The Storm, was followed by others, but it was the purchase of a Sioux Nation filly — later named She’s Perfect — that changed everything. Despite the price being higher than planned, Basher and trainer Charlie Fellowes saw something special. The filly lived up to her name, delivering thrilling performances and nearly winning a Classic in France (before a stewards’ inquiry overturned the result).
Today, Basher manages a thriving syndicate with multiple horses running in distinctive blue and white silks. He shares the highs and lows through vlogs, bringing fans along for the ride — from yard visits and owners’ mornings to the emotional rollercoaster of race days.
