Kylie Jenner debuted a new teal blue hairstyle – and it divided her followers.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder showed off the bold new hairdo on Instagram on September 5, posing in a carousel of photos. She captioned the post, referencing the specific shade of blue her hair is now: “teal the end of time.”
A day prior, Kyle was spotted at a Los Angeles hotspot restaurant rocking the look. She kept her outfit casual on the September 4 outing in a camo hat, white tank and dark pants as she left the sushi eatery alone. The look was reminiscent of her “King Kylie” days which fans recalled at the recent up-close car selfies.
On a Keeping Up With the Kardashians subreddit, users criticized Kylie for the fun color. They felt she was trying to recreate her popular “King Kylie days” with the new hair appearance. The person who made the thread titled it “Bless her desperate a–” and shared two screenshotted snaps from her Instagram post.
One critic wrote: “She is so lost right now. She keep trying to recreate “King Kylie”, then she goes for a “clean girl” aesthetic… then a french girl, then a thirst trap…..” A second critic responded to the first, complaining about her makeup in accompaniment with the hair: “Yea like if you’re going to do blue hair you can’t do no makeup makeup. That looks ridiculous.” Another said: “Anytime she does this whole king Kylie era thing it usually means no one is paying attention to her. She’s got some serious mommy/daddy issues.”
A fourth critic posted a 2014 photo of her when she had a bob with turquoise highlights, said: “sorry girlie pop but she’s dead and gone.”
While there were critics, there was love for the look. Fans affectionately referred to her as King Kylie and they were happy to see the return of the persona. In January 2024, she did another ode to that fashion period with a bubblegum pink hair. She even teased her King-Kylie era in a TikTok showcasing the look with the caption: “heard its 2014 vibes this year.”
“King Kylie” was a specific era for 27-year-old from 2014-2016 where she had a specific aesthetic that made her notable IT girl at the time and notable on social media. She would rock a bunch of lively colorful hair colors and wear edgy fits. She was also dating rapper Tyga at the time. His Instagram back than was King Gold Chains and Kylie changed her Instagram handle to King Kylie to match him.
Regardless of what people think, Kylie seems to love the teal locks as she posted another mini carousel, consisting of two photos, with the new hair on September 6. She was wrapped up in a white towel, sitting outside amongst greenery with a cup of coffee on the table.
