Scott McTominay opened the scoring after just 25 seconds in Napoli’s game at home to Como on Friday afternoon in southern Italy.

After receiving the ball from former Manchester United team-mate Romelu Lukaku, McTominay showed impressive control before finishing well.

The 27-year-old was jubilant as he celebrated after finding the net against a Como team managed by Cesc Fabregas on their return to Italy’s top flight.

However, Como managed to equalise before half time through Gabriel Strefezza to restore parity in the Serie A clash.

It wasn’t to be though sadly for Fabregas’ side, who were outclassed in the second half and went on to lose 3-1 at full-time, Lukaku and David Neres with the goals after the interval.

It is the second goal that McTominay has scored for Napoli so far, following on from his effort in a 5-0 win against Palermo in the Coppa Italia, again laid on by Lukaku.

McTominay brought his long association with United to an end as he joined Napoli at the end of August.

During his time at United McTominay made 255 appearances and scored 29 goals, while he provided eight assists.

He won the FA Cup last season and the EFL Cup in the previous campaign, prior to his departure this summer.

Napoli have made an encouraging start to the Serie A season after a 2023-24 campaign they will hope to forget following from that historic Scudetto-winning year the season prior.

Antonio Conte’s side took 13 points from their first six league games prior to facing Como, with the victory making that 16 from a possible 18.

With no European commitments to contend with this season, Napoli will be determined to thrive domestically, with all their rivals set to battle it out on multiple fronts.
