Elon Musk: “Kamala Didn’t Need To Debate Trump. She Had the ABC Moderators Do That For Her While She Babbled Like An Idiot”

In yet another instance of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk weighing in on the political arena, the outspoken CEO has recently set his sights on Vice President Kamala Harris—along with the ABC moderators who facilitated the recent presidential debate between her and former President Donald Trump.

Musk, known for his characteristic tweeting vigor much like his rocket launches, wasted no time in commenting on the debate. In a late-night post, he humorously remarked, “Kamala didn’t need to debate Trump. She had the ABC moderators do that for her while she babbled like an idiot.”

This tweet was classic Musk—pithy, acerbic, and primed to fuel political discourse for days on end. The real question is: did the SpaceX and Tesla mogul hit the mark, or was he merely delivering another incendiary hot take?

Many debate viewers echoed Musk’s sentiment, believing that the ABC moderators—David Muir and Linsey Davis—were overly supportive of Harris. The anticipated duel of ideas between her and Trump was more like a lopsided match.

As Trump rolled out familiar talking points on the economy, immigration, and event size, the moderators quickly interjected—often before Harris could even respond. “Mr. Trump, that’s not accurate,” Muir asserted during a particularly tense moment discussing the economy, leaving Harris poised and smiling as if she were waiting for a coffee order.

Twitter erupted in response, led by Musk, with many users contending that the moderators were acting as surrogates for Harris. “Kamala didn’t have to bring her A-game,” Musk tweeted. “ABC played defense for her. If I were Trump, I’d demand a rematch—with the proper format.”

While some critics dismissed Musk’s commentary as him merely poking fun at the political sphere, others conceded that the format felt more like a team event, with Harris and the moderators acting as an unexpected duo.

Musk’s primary frustration, however, was directed at Harris herself, who, he claimed, “babbled like an idiot” for much of the debate.

To be fair, Harris is known for sidestepping challenging questions with a blend of strategic smiles, vague responses, and her signature laugh. While some attribute this to political acumen, Musk certainly didn’t think so.

“She had an opportunity to articulate her views on the economy, immigration, and Afghanistan, but instead, she just deflected,” Musk explained in a post-debate interview. “It was as if watching someone in a spelling bee repeating the word they couldn’t spell in hopes nobody would catch on.”

Harris’s approach—frequently directing attacks at Trump over defending her own policy record—aligned seamlessly with Musk’s critique. When the topic of inflation arose regarding the Biden administration, she swiftly shifted to blaming Trump’s tariffs, labeling them a “Trump sales tax,” before launching into a discussion about his management of the Capitol riot.

For Musk, this was simply too much to bear. “Not a single question was answered with depth,” he tweeted. “It felt like someone trying to navigate a maze by just running into walls.”

Elon Musk is synonymous with efficiency; whether he’s engineering electric vehicles, propelling reusable rockets, or contemplating Twitter acquisitions, he is all about brevity. It’s little wonder he found Harris’s debate style anything but efficient.

“If I were up there,” Musk mused in a follow-up tweet, “I’d deliver straightforward responses. Forget the usual political jargon. Just express your thoughts plainly.”

The idea of Musk debating anyone—Trump included—might seem amusing, but he would undoubtedly bring a unique and dynamic flair to the stage. Remember his audacious ventures, like sending a car into space or casually proposing plans to colonize Mars?

Imagining him addressing tough debate questions with one hand on a flamethrower and the other demonstrating Tesla autopilot could only promise a spectacle more engaging than watching a candidate deftly avoid questions.

Moreover, Musk’s commentary suggests that he thinks he could outperform both Trump and Harris in a debate. Given his history of political commentary and surge into the realm of media ownership, he’s inadvertently become a key figure in the political tapestry.

What could a Trump vs. Musk debate encompass? It would surely involve a cascade of vocal spats and interruptions. Still, Musk would likely introduce an unpredictable element that even Trump may struggle to navigate.

Twitter users have even joked about Musk entering the presidential race in 2028, suggesting, “If Elon can contend with Jeff Bezos and the moon simultaneously, he can surely take on Trump.”

Despite Musk’s insistence that he is uninterested in political office—“I’m not looking to run for office,” he mentioned in a recent interview—his growing sway in tech, social media, and now politics indicates he remains a formidable player.

Ultimately, Musk’s critique of Harris’s debate performance reflects a broader discontent with how political debates are structured today. In a climate where presentation often overshadows depth, Musk’s preferences for straightforwardness certainly add an interesting dynamic.

His description of Harris “babbling like an idiot,” while harsh, resonated with many viewers frustrated with a perceived lack of substantive answers. Whether admired or criticized, Musk’s capacity to spark dialogue—however contentious—remains unrivaled.

As Harris moves on from the debate aided by her moderator backup, she may find herself facing a new critic in the form of the man who revolutionized electric cars and tweets fearlessly. Given the reactions to Musk’s comments, one can anticipate that this political drama is far from over.
