One Piece: Oda Finally Reveals Who Gave Luffy Food In Egghead War

The Egghead Island arc of One Piece was phenomenal from start to finish, and although not a major arc similar to the likes of Wano Country or the Paramount War, this arc gave fans more than they had expected.

Fans had expected a rather slow-paced arc, given that it was the beginning of the Final Saga, and they were utterly surprised when Oda chose to raise the stakes through the roof and delivered a nerve-wracking arc from the start.

Egghead ended up being one of the best arcs in One Piece, if not the best, and much of that is down to the incredible battle between the pirates and the Navy that was fought on the island. Of course, Luffy fought major battles here, and he tapped into Gear 5 on multiple occasions. While Luffy did showcase his true strength on Egghead, as expected, he was also out of power on multiple occasions. Curiously enough, someone was aiding Luffy on Egghead all along, and finally, Oda has revealed the identity of this person, or at the very least, strongly hinted at it.

Luffy Vs Kizaru In Egghead Island

Luffy Fought Lucci in Egghead

Luffy Also Battled Kizaru

The Egghead Island arc saw Luffy fight using the best of his powers. Right off the bat, Luffy utilized the incredible power of Gear 5 when he fought against Lucci. This battle did not last long, and it saw Luffy make quick work of him. However, the real battle began when Admiral Kizaru came to Egghead and Luffy started fighting against him. Luffy began the battle against Kizaru in Gear 4. However, he quickly realized that Gear 4 was not going to be enough and that he had to tap into a stronger power. Interestingly, before Luffy even began the fight, he was heavily injured because of the Frontier Dome. Naturally, Luffy had to turn to Gear 5 so that he could pass through it.

Compared to two years ago, we’re 100 times stronger! – Luffy

It must be noted that passing through the dome twice meant that Luffy took a significant amount of damage and was not fighting at his best. Still, for Luffy, taking down an Admiral should not have been too hard. Luffy’s job was to keep Kizaru from harming his friends, which meant that he was not going all out to begin with. Meanwhile, Kizaru’s goal was not to fight Luffy, but to assassinate Vegapunk. This battle was incredibly exciting from start to finish and Luffy showcased many tricks to the fans using Gear 5.

It also saw him overwhelm Kizaru completely, and the difference in strength was very clear. At the end of it all, Luffy delivered a powerful White Star Gun to Kizaru directly to the head, knocking him down in the process. At the same time, Luffy lost Gear 5 himself and collapsed. This battle was intense, but, more than that, it showed fans that Luffy was now strong enough to take down Admirals and even stronger opponents. But, in the process, Luffy was down himself as well. While many fans considered this battle a draw, when taking into the fact that Luffy had to go through the dome twice, it can be said that he was the stronger of the two, and at the same time, Kizaru was the first of the two to fall.

Oda Confirms Who Gave Luffy Food In Egghead

Kizaru Moved To Give Luffy Food

After Luffy collapsed following his battle with Kizaru, he was unable to move. In fact, Saturn attempted to kill him and had it not been for Franky, Luffy would most certainly have died. Immediately after, Saturn ordered the guards nearby to kill Luffy, but that is precisely when and noticed Luffy consuming a lot of food. Because Luffy ate a lot of food, he was able to regain his strength and, with that, turn back to using Gear 5 once again. This saw Luffy reach the pinnacle of his strength yet another time, and he fought against both Kizaru and Saturn at the same time.

From here onwards, Luffy utilized the power of Gear 5 extensively, and it is safe to say that he certainly delivered. But, fans simply couldn’t forget about who gave Luffy food. It must be remembered that Luffy was in quite a dire situation and could have died right there and then. Had it not been for this mysterious helper, Luffy would most certainly have had a much harder time surviving. Finally, Oda revealed the mystery behind Luffy’s savior and the SBS Volume 110.

In Chapter 1103, Luffy starts eating a bunch of food. But who answered his plea after he screamed out “foood~”? Close to him were Sanji and Franky, could it have been one of them? Though the likes of Kizaru and Sentomaru were also there… No one noticed it happening. Meaning that for no one to have spotted it, it must’ve been carried out at the speed of light. Hmm… I sure don’t know who that could be. Speed of light…

As is evident from Oda’s answer, the one who gave Luffy food was none other than Kizaru. As to why he gave him food, the answer is clear. Kizaru believes in Unclear Justice. Even though he was the one who delivered the killing blow to Vegapunk, he was also trying his best to ensure that Vegapunk survived in one way or another. Kizaru carried out his duty, but he made sure that his chances of survival were the best they could have been. Furthermore, Kizaru giving Luffy food was also before he steeled his resolve and went into battle again.

Did Kizaru Win The Battle Against Luffy?

Kizaru Did Not Win Against Luffy

Naturally, a lot of fans are pointing at the fact that Kizaru giving Luffy food means that he could have moved and essentially ended the battle with Luffy by killing him. This, to many, implies that Kizaru was the winner of the fight. However, that isn’t exactly the case. The fact is that Luffy was never fighting Kizaru to the best of his abilities. As fans know, Luffy did not utilize the power of Supreme King Haki throughout this fight, that is, until the very end, when he pummeled Kizaru and made sure that he couldn’t move for a long time.

Furthermore, it must also be remembered that while Kizaru did get Luffy food, there is absolutely no indicator of the fact that he had enough power in him to kill Luffy. After all, White Star Gun did affect Kizaru badly, given that he himself proclaimed that he saw stars. Kizaru was injured at that point and could not utilize his powers to the fullest. He could certainly move and get Luffy food, but nobody can say for sure whether he had enough in him to take out Luffy.

Furthermore, fans know that Luffy not moving doesn’t necessarily mean that he can’t move. Usually, when Luffy is surrounded by other people, he rests as much as possible so he can gain as much energy as he can and leaves the job of protecting him to others. Had he needed to, Luffy would most certainly have moved and evaded the battle. But, more than that, fans know for a fact that Luffy, who was nerfed twice by the Frontier Dome barrier and later, by Oda himself by making sure that he did not use Supreme King Haki against Kizaru, did not lose this battle.
