This is outrageous – Fans slam Pitchfork for dragging Selena Gomez into Katy Perry space trip coverage
Selena Gomez recently got dragged into the debate surrounding Katy Perry and her space trip with Blue Origin NS 31 mission, when a Pitchfork critique article called out the cost of the trip and mocked the space trip as being shorter than a Gomez media break. Published on April 15, 2025, the article said:
“I can think of roughly 10,000 of each that would make her life richer than a trip to space that was shorter than a Selena Gomez social media break. Unfortunately, I thought about all of this too late. The a** had been put back into astronaut.”
This statement, bringing in Selena Gomez into the debate, has caused fans to react negatively and slam Pitchfork, as exemplified by the tweets below:
“This is so outrageous. It’s not that deep, can everybody shut the f**k up? Damn.”
Others reacted similarly, with fans calling out the comparison as lame and forced writing. Some even went as far as to suggest Pitchfork had used Large Language Models to write the article:
“They literally went on to chat gpt and asked how can I make a joke about Katy Perry going to space,” one fan stated.
“The fact that everyone is going with this hate train without knowing the reason why could also be why Trump became President as well,” another fan opined.
“Why is the state of cultural journalism so sh*tty? Why is music journalism just a series of stan twitter narratives the average 23-year-old makes jokes about that?” one netizen questioned.
“I’m not a Katy stan but why is she the only one getting attacked and the other girls aren’t?” another netizen questioned.
Selena Gomez and Katy Perry have a cordial relationship
Selena Gomez and Katy Perry have had a cordial relationship. The two have been spotted partying together in previous years, most notably after Selena and Katy Perry’s then partner Orlando Bloom were spotted hanging out and the internet started chasing rumours of a rift between Gomez and Perry. Their hanging out together put a rest to those rumours.
Selena Gomez and Katy Perry have not hung out recently but that’s rumored to be due to Gomez’s close ties with Taylor Swift, who has been a rival of Perry. Even then, Gomez clarified that she and Perry had no bad blood between them, even with Gomez closely collaborating with Swift.
Gomez talked about it in an exclusive statement to The Edge Afternoons in 2015 —here quoted via EOnline’s article on the matter that was published on July 1, 2015— clearly stating in response to the question of bad blood between her and Perry:
“That’s false, I love Katy. I just talked to her. She’s amazing. But I didn’t talk about that, but I just talked to her. She’s awesome. I think it’s going to always happen but at the end of the day people see it.”
Selena Gomez’s partner Benny Blanco co-wrote the Katy Perry hit Teenage Dream, which went on to become one of the biggest hits of Perry’s career. The single is currently diamond certified in the US and has multi-platinum certifications all across the world.
Overall, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry have maintained a cordial relationship throughout the years. As of this writing, Gomez has not responded to the Pitchfork article or the backlash against Pitchfork by fans after the article was published.
