One Piece: The Traitor In The D Family, Explained

One Piece: The Traitor In The D Family, Explained

One Piece is currently in the Egghead Island arc, and much to the surprise of every fan, Oda has revealed quite a lot of exciting bits of lore in this particular story arc. Much of that is down to the fact that Vegapunk, the smartest man in the entire world, has decided to go against the Government and reveal a string of secrets about the Void Century. Of course, when speaking of the Void Century, the matter of the people of the D was always going to come up and when it did, fans finally found out quite a lot about Joy Boy, the Ancient Kingdom, and how all of that connects to the people of the D.

Of course, the wider mystery is still unexplained and will only be revealed when the Strawhat Pirates will reach the Final Island, Laugh Tale. However, fans have received quite a lot more hints now, and it is evident that there might have been a traitor within the ranks of the D, after all.

The D Family And The Ancient Kingdom

The D Family Was Connected To The Ancient Kingdom In One Piece

The D family and the Ancient Kingdom are interconnected. This is not something that is hard for the fans to figure out as the basis for this has been set up in the story long ago. For instance, the people of the D have always been called the enemies of the Gods. Luffy was called the natural born enemy of Enel, who is the God of Skypiea. Later down the line, Corazon clearly mentioned to Law that the people of the D were called the Enemies of the Gods and Celestial Dragon children were often scared by their parents by saying that if they misbehave, the devil, which was a reference to the people of the D, would eat them. Clearly, the people of the D are in opposition to the Celestial Dragons. At the same time, fans also know the Celestial Dragons fought against the people of the Ancient Kingdom. Oda revealed the Ancient Kingdom to be a prosperous land the science of which was so advanced that even today’s world cannot match it. This bountiful Kingdom was in opposition with what is currently known as the World Government, and the fact that the people of the D are enemies of the current Celestial Dragons is proof of the fact that they are connected to the Ancient Kingdom itself.

Whether or not the people of the D have to have direct ties to the Ancient Kingdom remains unknown. It could also be that the people of the D represent more of a belief than a common origin place. If people banded together against the World Government, it is possible that they took the name D. Furthermore, D could be a part of a wider organization that took up arms against the World Government, similar to a giant pirate crew or an alliance. Fans don’t know what exactly the D is and what it means, and the answer to that question will be given to them much later down the line. However, there have been many D families introduced in One Piece over the years, and that clearly implies that different individuals bearing the D can have different motivations.

For instance, even within the current order, there is Blackbeard, or Marshall D. Teach, who fans know to be a villain in the current One Piece timeline. There could have been evil D individuals in the past as well, but, saying that there was a traitor within the ranks of the D isn’t just a mere assumption.

Why There Must Be A Traitor In The Ranks Of D

The D Who Betrayed Joy Boy Led To The Downfall Of The Ancient Kingdom

There absolutely has to be a traitor within the ranks of the D, and this is something that Oda has established more recently in the Egghead Island arc. While this hasn’t been spoonfed to the fans, it is something that Oda has implied heavily. For one, fans simply need to look back at the scientific advancements of the people of the D and the Ancient Kingdom. The Ancient Kingdom was said to be a bountiful land, and their power was absolutely immense. In fact, their power was such that 20 different rulers had to band together to form an alliance known as The Alliance.

Let me cut to the chase. Our world is going to sink into the ocean!!

This alliance then led to the creation of the World Government after the conclusion of the Void Century, when Joy Boy died. It is clear that the power of the Ancient Kingdom was too great for them to oppose. In fact, this is even more difficult to comprehend when one takes into consideration the fact that the people of the Ancient Kingdom were the ones responsible for the creation of the Ancient Weapons. Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus were all in the possession of the people of the Ancient Kingdom. This is a fact that Oda has clearly mentioned in his story. All three of these weapons have the power to destroy the world in one way or another. Pluton can vaporize an entire island with a single shot. Poseidon can sink the entire world with her powers, and Uranus, as fans saw recently, can essentially eradicate islands of the face of the earth and cause huge holes in the oceans themselves that can never get filled. All three of these weapons put together should have been enough to deal with the World Government. However, that was not the case. This is down to the fact that one of the Ancient Weapons found its way to the World Government. This is proven by the fact that currently, Uranus rests within the palms of the World Government, and they have used this previously as well.

The sinking of the world was clearly caused by the people of the World Government and not the people of the D. There is a specific way in which Joy Boy wanted the weapons to be used, since it is clearly mentioned in the prophecy of Fishman Island that only Joy Boy can guide the Mermaid Princess and show her how to make proper use of her ability. It is also stated that misuse will cause the world to come to ruin. This essentially is a confirmation of the fact that Joy Boy did not take any part in the destruction of the world and was actually trying to save it. Meanwhile, the destruction and the 200-meter rise in water level that came about during the time of the Void Century was carried out by the World Government.

Lastly, I have one message for those scattered throughout the world who beat the name D. Within you, there is a…

However, then, one comes to the main question. How exactly did an ancient weapon created by the people of the D and the Ancient Kingdom fall into the hands of the world government? The clear answer is that there has to be someone who made this possible for them and sold them out for one reason or another. Among the D, there has to be someone who betrayed Joy Boy and ended up giving this power to the World Government. Only after this betrayal would the playfield have been leveled much more. The World Government, not caring about the proper usage of the Ancient Weapons, would have indiscriminately fired them, causing the entire world to sink and eventually, Joy Boy’s forces to come to ruin as well, which would have crushed the Ancient Kingdom for good.
