Mama is a 2013 English-language Spanish-language supernatural fantasy horror film directed and co-written by Andrés Muschietti and based on his 2008 Argentine short film Mamá. The film stars Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and is produced by Zandy Federico and co-writer Bárbara Muschietti, with Guillermo del Toro as executive producer. The film tells the story of two girls abandoned in a cabin in the woods, taken in by by an unknown entity they affectionately call “Mom”, who eventually follows them to their new home in the suburbs after their uncle retrieves them. Originally scheduled for release in October 2012, it was released in theaters on January 18, 2013. The film was remade in Tamil with the title Mooch. Directed by Andrés Muschietti.

Mama 2 has been given the go-ahead and what’s exciting is that Starry Eyes directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch are helming the project.
