One Piece Theory: Imu’s Shocking Connection to This Straw Hat Pirate

The One Piece franchise continues to captivate fans with its rich tapestry of mystery and lore.

Central to this intrigue is the enigmatic figure Imu, whose true nature and purpose remain largely unknown, even after more than 1100 chapters. Imu’s curious relationship with one of the Straw Hats’ key allies has led many fans to speculate about the deeper connections within the story. Let’s delve into this connection to uncover any potential links.

Imu’s Connection to Vivi

Exploring the Imu-Vivi Link

Vivi’s First Appearance: One Piece, Chapter 103, “The Whale”

Imu’s First Appearance: One Piece, Chapter 906, “The Holy Land Mary Geoise”

While Imu has seemingly held dominion over the world since the conclusion of the Void Century, very little is known about this character. Their intriguing connection to various figures, including Joyboy, was highlighted during their debut in the Chamber of Flowers, where curious interactions with the posters of significant characters such as Luffy, Blackbeard, Shirahoshi, and Vivi were noted.

Fans became particularly intrigued by Imu’s evident fixation with Vivi after a pivotal moment when Nefeltari Cobra encountered this powerful figure. During their interaction, Imu referenced an ancient ruler of Alabasta, Nefeltari Lily — one of the 20 rulers who contributed to the downfall of the Ancient Kingdom more than 800 years ago.

The evidence suggests a strong connection between Imu and Lily, as well as their indirect link to Vivi. This link is further amplified by Imu’s apparent disdain for Lily’s decision to release the Poneglyphs into the world, culminating in an attack aimed at Cobra upon learning of Lily’s surname containing the ‘D.’ initial.

Theories Surrounding Imu, Lily, and Vivi:

One particularly compelling theory posits that Imu may be a mysterious force inhabiting the body of Nefeltari Lily for the past 800 years. Currently speculative, this theory arises partly from Imu’s slender, feminine appearance. Fans speculate that the character may possess long hair, suggesting an association with Lily’s identity. Recent anime depictions showcase a voice blending both masculine and feminine tones, further intensifying this theory. Additionally, it is known that Lily disappeared during her reign, never returning to Alabasta — a void filled by her younger brother.

Their ‘mistake’ during this pivotal moment holds critical significance, as it led to the dispersal of the feared Poneglyphs across the globe.

As for Imu’s origins, the narrative hints at a connection to one of the 20 Kings known as St. Imu of the Nerona Dynasty. Yet, the mystery deepens with various fan theories suggesting that Imu might have once been an ally to Joyboy, only to betray him and secure their own reign over the world. This backstory is often intertwined with an ancient romantic pursuit of Lily, emphasized by Imu’s recurring mentions of her and the haunting portrait in the Chamber of Flowers.

This obsession could seamlessly tie into Imu’s fixation on Vivi, who bears a striking resemblance to Lily. As the storyline progresses, it remains to be seen just how these mysteries will unveil. One thing is certain; when the truth comes forth, it may very well catch everyone off guard!
