Steph Curry was poised to be the hero Saturday up until LeBron James spoiled his big night.
The Golden State Warriors lost in double overtime 145-144 against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif.
Curry walked off the floor visibly frustrated after the final buzzer. The 2-time MVP tore his jersey apart after what turned out to be the Warriors’ second consecutive defeat by a single point.
Curry was an absolute monster all game with 46 points, 7 assists, and 9 three-pointers on 17/35 shooting from the field. He also scored 10 points in the final overtime, including the last made field goal to put the Warriors up by one point with just over five seconds to play.
The second overtime was shaping up to be a storybook ending for Curry. However, James took his purple and gold pen and rewrote the ending. James drove into the paint with 5.2 seconds left, got fouled, and sank two free throws to win the game for the visitors.
James was also a behemoth on the boards with a career-high 20 rebounds against the Warriors to go along with 36 points, 12 assists, and the go-ahead free throws with a second to play.
Despite another masterful performance from Curry, the Warriors have lost four of their last five games.
