The Lord of the Rings is an epic high-fantasy story by J.R.R. Tolkien, later adapted into a critically acclaimed film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson (2001–2003). The story follows Frodo Baggins, a humble hobbit who embarks on a perilous quest to destroy the One Ring and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron. In the peaceful land of the Shire, the hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a mysterious ring from his uncle, Bilbo Baggins. The wizard Gandalf soon reveals that this is the One Ring, an artifact of immense power created by the Dark Lord Sauron to control Middle-earth. If Sauron regains the Ring, he will become unstoppable. To prevent this, Frodo and his friends—Sam, Merry, and Pippin—flee the Shire, pursued by Ringwraiths (Sauron’s undead servants). Along the way, they are aided by Aragorn, a ranger with a royal lineage. They reach Rivendell, where a council of elves, dwarves, and men decides that the Ring must be destroyed by casting it into the volcanic Mount Doom in Sauron’s realm of Mordor.
