WASHINGTON D.C. – Tesla has released a software fix for thousands of Tesla vehicles for potential issues with their backup cameras.
A software issue can potentially stop the car’s backup camera from activating when moving in reverse. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the recall affects 200,000 Model S, X, and Y vehicles manufactured from 2020 to 2023. All are equipped with “Full Self-Driving” computer 4.0 and run software version 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100.
Regulators have said there have been more than 80 warranty claims likely linked to the issue. Tesla says that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries.
The company says that software instability may prevent the camera from showing images while the Teslas are in reverse. The safety agency says that can increase the risk of a crash.
