In a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 turn of events, a mother in Oregon is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to poison her three young sons during what she described as a special sleepover. Chardonnay Marie Benvitz reportedly created a deceptive scenario, claiming they would enjoy a cozy night in the car with popcorn, while a darker plan unfolded.
The 34-year-old mother, who had previously expressed her love for her children on social media, is now under investigation for allegedly using carbon monoxide in a chilling attempt to take her children’s lives. Just days before the incident, she shared heartfelt posts about motherhood, highlighting the joys and struggles of raising her three boys, including twin toddlers and a four-year-old.
However, authorities have uncovered a troubling side to her story. Reports indicate that Benvitz had been researching methods of suicide that would allow for a painless exit, raising questions about her mental state leading up to the tragic event. According to police, she called 911 on June 6, claiming something had gone wrong, and admitted to attempting to harm her children and herself.
When emergency responders arrived, they were met with a dire scene. The children were found unconscious on the living room floor, and Benvitz was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, all three boys survived and are reportedly recovering.
Investigators discovered a disturbing setup in her home, including an apparatus that connected her car’s exhaust to the interior, suggesting a premeditated plan. Benvitz allegedly told her children they were having a sleepover, but the reality of the situation was far more sinister.

Her ex-husband, who now has custody of the children, expressed disbelief over her actions, stating that he never anticipated such a drastic turn. He described her as a loving mother and shared his shock at the events that unfolded.
As the legal proceedings move forward, Benvitz faces three counts of attempted first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond. The case raises significant concerns about mental health and the complexities of custody arrangements, particularly when alarming behaviors emerge.
With a court date set for June 17, many are left wondering how this tragic situation escalated and what the future holds for this family. What led a devoted mother to such a desperate act?
