Conor McGregor’s bank balance just got a massive boost as he’s set to pocket over £4 million for his part in the new Road House film. This huge payday makes him the top-earning actor ever in their first movie role.
The UFC superstar will be seen as ‘Knox’ in the fresh take on the 1989 hit movie, which comes out this Thursday on Prime Video. McGregor joined the cast late last year and even shared some tips with Jake Gyllenhaal during a UFC fight scene in Las Vegas.
McGregor is now bragging that he’s zoomed past WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the best-paid new actor. ‘The Rock’ made about £4.3m in his first big movie, The Mummy Returns, back in 2001. McGregor tweeted, then deleted, a boast about beating Johnson’s record.
“What did you think of my acting debut movie trailer? Hell of a ride! I am now officially the highest-paid first-time actor of all time, on record, pipping Dwayne Johnson for the top spot. Incredible! ” said McGregor.
He was already doing very well financially, topping Forbes’ 2020 list as the world’s richest athlete, with an estimated fortune of £530m last year.
McGregor confirmed his claim about being the highest-paid debutant actor on Good Morning Britain, saying: “That’s the fact, the highest paid first-time actor of all time so it’s a nice feather in the cap. I’ve never done a movie before so I am akin to a white belt, a beginner. There’s not an action star in Hollywood that could take me on and that’s a fact, so let’s see how it goes.”
For now, McGregor has said he won’t be taking on another acting role as he is getting ready for his UFC comeback, which will happen in the summer against Michael Chandler. The planned date is June 29 at UFC 303, which will be the main event of the promotion’s International Fight Week.
“We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go and ‘The Mac’, ‘The Notorious’ will be returning to the UFC Octagon this summer,” McGregor told ESPN MMA. The T-Mobile Arena, where McGregor broke his leg in his last fight against Dustin Poirier nearly three years ago, is currently the planned venue for UFC 303.
